Trusted by architects, engineers, and students worldwide
DXF stands for Drawing Exchange Format and was created by Autodesk in 1982 as an open interchange format for CAD data. Unlike the proprietary DWG format, DXF files use either ASCII text or binary encoding to represent 2D and 3D drawing data — including lines, arcs, circles, polylines, text, dimensions, and layer information. Because DXF is an open format, it's supported by virtually every CAD application, making it the standard for exchanging drawings between different software.
While DXF files are more interoperable than DWG, you still need CAD software to view them properly. BlinkCAD eliminates that requirement entirely. Upload your DXF file and view it in your browser within seconds — no AutoCAD, no desktop software, no account needed.
BlinkCAD renders your DXF file with full layer support, accurate geometry, and real measurement capability. Toggle layers on and off, zoom into details, measure distances between any two points, and share your drawing with a link — all without leaving your browser.
If your file is in DWG format instead, try our DWG viewer.
All the tools you need to work with DXF files — right in your browser.
Upload any DXF file and see it rendered in seconds. Supports ASCII and binary DXF formats.
Click two points to measure real-world distances. Works with the drawing's native coordinate system.
Show or hide layers to isolate specific elements in complex DXF drawings.
Generate a shareable link to your DXF file. Recipients can view it without any software.
Smooth zoom and pan controls for navigating detailed technical drawings and floor plans.
View DXF files on desktop, tablet, or mobile. All you need is a modern web browser.
Three steps, no software needed.
Drag and drop your DXF file onto the upload area above, or click to browse. BlinkCAD accepts all DXF versions including ASCII and binary.
Our server processes your DXF file and extracts all geometry, layers, and entities. Most DXF files process in just a few seconds.
Once processed, your drawing appears in an interactive viewer. Use the toolbar to zoom, measure distances, toggle layers, or generate a shareable link.
Skip the heavy software and open your file in seconds.
Yes. BlinkCAD lets you open and view DXF files directly in your browser without AutoCAD or any other CAD software. Just upload your file — it's completely free. BlinkCAD also supports DWG files.
DWG is AutoCAD's proprietary binary format, while DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) is an open format designed for interoperability between CAD applications. DXF files are typically larger but more universally compatible. BlinkCAD supports both — try our DWG viewer too.
