1. How BlinkCAD Works
When you upload a DWG or DXF file to BlinkCAD, the file is sent to our server where it is converted into a format optimized for browser-based viewing. This conversion allows us to render your drawing accurately with features like layer toggling, measurement tools, and zoom.
Your original uploaded file and the converted data are handled differently. We want to be fully transparent about what happens to each, so please read the sections below carefully.
2. What We Store
We believe in being clear about what data we keep and why:
- Original Files: Your original DWG/DXF file is uploaded to a secure cloud storage bucket (AWS S3). It is automatically deleted within 24 hours by our bucket lifecycle policy. We do not manually access, view, or analyze your original files.
- Processed Data: When your file is converted for viewing, the processed rendering data is stored on our servers. This data is kept for caching purposes — so if you revisit the same drawing, it loads faster without re-uploading. This processed data is not your original CAD file; it is a converted representation used only for display in the viewer.
- Personal Information: We do not require account creation. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other personal identifiers. You use BlinkCAD completely anonymously.
About Your Original Files
Your original CAD files are automatically deleted from our storage within 24 hours of upload. We have no interest in your designs or intellectual property. The processed rendering data that remains is used solely to provide you with a faster viewing experience and to power the sharing feature.
4. Data Retention
Here is a clear summary of how long different types of data are kept:
- Original uploaded files (DWG/DXF): Automatically deleted from cloud storage within 24 hours of upload.
- Processed rendering data: Stored on our servers for caching and sharing functionality. Retained until manually deleted by our team during routine maintenance, or upon your request.
- Analytics data: Anonymous usage data collected via Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity. This data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify you personally. Retained according to the default retention policies of these services.
5. Analytics & Cookies
We use minimal tracking to understand how visitors use BlinkCAD and to improve the service:
- Essential Cookies: Required for basic site functionality. These do not track you across other websites.
- Google Analytics: We use Google Analytics to collect anonymous data about page views, session duration, and general usage patterns. This data is aggregated and does not identify you personally. Google Analytics uses cookies to distinguish unique visitors.
- Microsoft Clarity: We use Microsoft Clarity to understand how users interact with the viewer interface through anonymous session recordings and heatmaps. This helps us identify usability issues. Clarity does not collect personal information.
6. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate BlinkCAD:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS S3): Used for temporary storage of uploaded files. Files are automatically deleted within 24 hours via bucket lifecycle policies.
- Google Analytics: Used for anonymous website traffic analytics.
- Microsoft Clarity: Used for anonymous session recording and heatmap analytics.
We do not sell, trade, or share your files or personal data with any third party. The services listed above receive only the minimum data necessary to perform their function.
7. Your Rights & GDPR
If you are located in the European Union or European Economic Area, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Although BlinkCAD does not collect personal information or require accounts, we respect your right to control your data.
You have the following rights:
- Request deletion of any processed data associated with your uploaded files
- Request information about what data we hold related to your usage
- Opt out of analytics tracking by using your browser's Do Not Track setting or by using a browser extension to block analytics scripts
Since we do not collect personal identifiers, we cannot associate uploaded files with specific individuals. If you need specific data deleted, please contact us with details about the file (such as the share link URL or approximate upload time) so we can locate and remove it.
